Kinniya is a small town in the Trincomalee District of the Eastern province of Sri Lanka. It is located about 20 km
from the town of Trincomalee and 240 km from the national capital Colombo.
With over 35,000  inhabitants, 97% of Kinniya residents are ethnic Muslims with the remaining being Tamils.
Located in Sri Lanka's dry zone, the Kinniya region often experiences hot an dry weather with very little
precipitation. The town is most famous for its hot wells, which is a tourist attraction in the area.
